New Working Paper: Living Income for Guji Zone, Ethiopia

The GLWC and Anker Research Institute are content to announce a new working paper, Living Income for Guji Zone (Oromia Region), Ethiopia, which provides updated estimates of family living expenses for the coffee-producing rural Guji zone, a small administrative division in the south of Ethiopia in the Oromia Region. This report uses available Anker Living Wage and Living Income reports for Ethiopia, as well as a series of variables such as percentage of urban population, food prices, housing conditions, labor market conditions, fertility rates, mortality rates, average household size, household expenditures, and Gini coefficients to determine the extent to which rural Oromia is typical for rural Ethiopia. Based on rigorous economic and statistical analysis of the available data, the report concludes that the living income for rural Guji zone is 7% higher than the Anker Living Income Reference Value for rural Ethiopia.

Living Wage Updates for Bangladesh, Ethiopia + India

The GLWC and Anker Research Institute are excited to announce new living wage updates for Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and India!

These new living wage reports for Dhaka, Bangladesh and its surrounding Satellite cities; the Ziway region of Ethiopia; and urban Tiruppur, India update living wage estimates to account for changes in inflation, exchange rates, costs of living, and policy changes since the original reporting.

All of these reports estimate the wage a worker in these regions would need to receive each month to afford a basic but decent living for themselves and their family.

These new living wage reports for Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, India; the non-metropolitan urban Ziway Region of Ethiopia; and the rural Lake Victoria basin of Uganda, update living wage estimates to account for changes in inflation, exchange rates, costs of living, and policy changes since the original reporting.
